"The Wii is the antithesis of the Xbox 360. It's strictly for hardcore gamers. The attachment rate for the Xbox 360 is much higher than for the Wii. People who buy the 360 really like games... I think the current trend is that most people aren't buying the Wii as a game machine, but as a toy... It seems that Sony isn't sure what it wants to do. Is it making high-end electronics or a game console for gamers? I want them to clearly define their console."

Now this guys knows his stuff, FINALLY someones said it, if i was wearing a hat i'd take it off to him, thankyou!

Its gonna be extremely interesting to see the PS3 fans reaction on this one since they hold Final Fantasy very dearly to themselves since its a PS3 only title...But what I dont get is if this guy says 360 owners love gaming and the PS3 is a confused system why not release FF13 on the 360 as well???

Now I am confused hahaha

I totally agree, Wii is a toy.

Plus after 10 minutes of playing Wii sports I'm bored, unless I'm playing with friends then it's 15 minutes... It's mostly novelty games, IMHO, and I'm not interested in that.

What he says is very accurate. The wii is seen as a Toy by most of the world not a games console and most parents (who are the ones mainly buying them) will be expecting it keep there kids happy for a few months before they get something the next "big" toy for their birthdays.

Sony is confused a bit about what they are trying to make the ps3 although the test on the games front for the ps3 will be it's second year; it's first year of games compares failry well with the 360's first year.
I've had a ps3 since March and have about 8 games at present which is a much as I can afford so I quite pleased they're getting spread out. 2 decent games a month is all I need or I'll be missing out on a lot of games which I simply can't afford.

360 has had 2 years on the shelves and over the last 12 months some games actually got released that are worth buying but it needs more or it'll be the same 5 or 6 games released every year; people will get sick of Halo if it's just a new Halo game every year; Microsoft could do with more games that aren't on the pc otherwise in the long term a pc (which every house has - if not several) and a ps3 will offer the wider variety in the long term.

Square seem to mainly be backing the ds, psp and ps3; maybe with the next generation Sqaure maybe looking more to the 360 but Sqaure don'd od multi format and the PC releases have never really worked out and the similarities between the pc and 360 may have something to do with it.

What's good to see for the industry and therefore gamers is that there is a proper battle now which will last for a number of years and something for everyone.

Sorry that;s a long post

If you compare what the 360 has on the shelves compared to the PS3 as far as games go and look online on who offers more content to download i.e. Arcade games then the 360 clearly has more mainly yes thanks to its lead on being the first to the market.

Microsoft does have a lot of exclusives and many games that are only on the 360 or on the 360 first and appear a while later on the PS3 but its going to be a common case that 360 games will appear on the PC as well since the developers find the 360 and PC a very close platform and obviously its all about making money.

We will have to see what Sony can release next year, hopefully they will have more exclusives and some of those nice Japanese games they had on the PS2.

As far as this year goes well looks like the Wii's novelty is winning with the 360 in second place.

To be correct, the Xbox360 is for traditional hardcore gamers. Innovation-seeking hardcore gamers have no interest in a X360. Also, do know what sir Square-Enix means by saying that the Xbox360 is so aimed at hardcore gamers, it also means that it won't be market leader in the long run. Its target audience is too limited.

The Wii being toy has become its (wrong? partial yes) perception image. Like the Xbox360 has the pereception image of being HaloBox and that's that. The PS3 has the image of no exclusives and bad versions when it comes to multi-platform-games. Thing is, you can't destroy that image if it's settled in so it will get repeated over and over again.

But what i really wonder...the Wii is slowly becoming the next PS2, in all it's bad and good aspects, and part of the PS2 appeal was...that it was a toy. Does he know that?

Alot of us hardcore gamers end up getting more than one console each generation. I have Xbox, GC, and PS2 (and a dreamcast if that counts...)It all depends on the games in my opinion, I dont buy a system because of the system, i buy the one with the games i want to play, I dont buy them all at once, I bought my dreamcast for Sonic, Shenmue, Skies of arcadia...Then i got a Xbox for
Halo, Then a Gamecube for Zelda, then a PS2 for Final Fantasy. Then i got a 360 for halo, ect... TI dosent matter if it is a toy or a hardcore machine, parents may be less inclined to buy a hardcore machine over a toy, but a hardcore games will always buy the platform with his/her favorite game.

This actually sounds sort of like a plea from Square-Enix to Sony if you ask me.

The fact is that the X360 is not selling well in Japan. Sure it has a sales spike here and there, but as a whole its the Nintendo systems that are the real sellers. If I had to guess, I would guess that SE wants Sony to get much more aggressive in their marketing and be very clear and concise as to who Sony wants to buy a PS3 (besides the obvious EVERYONE!). This way SE can cater to the home market as well as the international market much in the same way they did with the PS2.

Having to really only develop for one system allows for some rather obvious benefits.

Again, this really sounds like a call for help from SE to Sony. But hey, thats just my two cents.

...I call those people short-sighted idiots.

Theres an IBM commercial that comes to mind...some goofball in a leotard and cape starts spouting a bunch of words that start with "I" and are vaguely innovation related...then the nonplussed chick hes talking to says "What about implementation?"

"Oh yeah....I knew I forgot something." *runs away in swirl of cape

You can sit around and wish for another Katamari Damci all you want...but isn't that kind of counter to true "innovation"...either get out there and implement some yourself, or sit down, shut up, and wait for your betters to deliver you some on a silver platter.

Innovation has become a tired, bagged-out, streetwalking joke of a buzzword in the videogame industry. At least out of the mouths of people who have nothing to do with the videogame industry. Your comments even imply that its become code for anti-MS fanboyism, since its apparently obvious that MS has nothing to do with innovation, and those seeking it should look elsewhere.

Also, the original Xbox might have had the image of being the HaloBox (perhaps somewhat deservedly)...but only a Sony fanboy playing the simpleton or someone swathed in multiple layers of ignorance would have that impression of the 360. If anything the 360 is the LIVE!Box.

Now, I'm not some kind of anti-innovation pseudo-Luddite or something, I just see Innovation sans Implementation as future museum pieces and trivia answers. Yes, I'm looking right at you, Nintendo...that robot peripheral for the NES, VirtualBoy, the N64 controller, Wii Mote controls on CoD3...

As to Square Enix, seems to me theres nothing they do that couldn't be accomplished on the Wii. Hi Def graphics are nice, but not essential to anything they do, guess they just have a problem with the Wii's perception.
