Man, I feel sorry for the SCEE divisions that'll be affected by this. I hope those who are affected (if the decision comes to pass) can get through it OK. Having said that something like this is just as hard for the management to tell those involved as it is the employees. =(

Mind you, Sony itself are acting bullish. And a little suspect, even. "Hey, we did so well and made so much money -- but we're firing you anyway!"

Right...

What's the bet the beancounters who suggested these measure won't be affected. In fact, what's the bet they'll be taking home bonuses for saving the company money?

Why bitter? Is there something specific you can tell us about the situation? Please contact tim@spong.com if that's the case.

Microsoft have confirmed that some Xbox 360s are faulty.

Spong anti-Sony bias means you have chosen to ignore this story, and write about Sony maybe cutting jobs.

Wait, so one minute we're pro-Sony biased, the next we're anti-Sony biased?
Make up your mind.

I don't rise to anger easily, but this utterly ridiculous.

First of all, you neglected to actually reference the story you're talking about - I am assuming Endgadget's tale of disc scratching which we're looking into. Or maybe GHII which we've covered.

If it's something, else then send the reference and stop messing everybody else around.

Secondly, we ran a report that relays the FACT that the head of a company is publicly praising its European wing for pulling off a great launch in the face of delays and negativity and in the wake of a hugely successful launch by a competitor.

At the same time, that successful European wing is being prepped for redundancies. To me this merits a story if it occurs to any major player in our industry.

The fact that success is rewarded with the threat of job loss seems cock-eyed to me - and is therefore deserving of comment.

The fact that the company is called Sony is a tremendous shame for all concerned - Had the same happened to Nintendo, Microsoft or anybody else, we would also have reported and commented.

What is also a shame is that will, no doubt, stoke the one-eyed, puerile, anti-Sony fanboy fires for weeks to come.

Remember we know many people within SCEE who we know are hard-working, committed and talented (some of whom we talk to on a daily basis) - these people do not deserve this kind of stress. These are real people and this story relates to their real lives; they are not simply avatars in a fanboy's game-mind.

Also bear in mind that I was around when the mighty Amiga - which absolutely ruled in the UK - was taken from the heights to the depths by poor management decisions and communication. I do not want to see any other strong, potentially great platform go the same way. In fact, I'd like to see more not fewer platform holders.

STOP PRESS you don't have to be a 360/WII fanboy to hate Sony.
I have neither console yet find it very easy to hate a company that is responsable for arogance, lies, the rootkit, vaporware, exploding batteries, viral marketing and forcing the early adoption their proprietary brand blu-ray brand.

If you want to stick your head in the sand and carry on blindly supporting a corporation that treats consumers this way that's fine with me, but stop attacking every site that reports NEWS just because it's not favourable to Sony.

Were you not about after 360/WII launched? there was plenty of negative news stories about 360 hardware problems, Wii remote recalls etc... If there is more negative news to report coming from Sony, that's not the fault of journalism however much you want it to be.

I'm tired of being labelled a 360/WII fanboy because people like you want to believe that the only reason anybody could have for hating Sony's lies and arogance is that we belong to Nintendo or Microsoft.

Wake up and smell the coffee Sony have earned the negative press that they recieve. If and when the others are caught lying, installing rootkits and forcing proprietary HD drives on their cosumers then they'll get the same.

Anti Sony yep like i said in my comment, fanboy??? how can i be called a fanboy when I Have NO BLIND ALLEGIANCE to any of the consoles. Did you only read part of my comment or are you just trying to be clever?

It's FANBOYS in general that make me sick, why do corporations need to spend millions on advertising when they already have their consumers so brainwashed that they'll fight their battles for them, no matter how badly they are treated.

I'll repeat myself for those who have a hard time working it out for themselves NO 360, NO WII, NO PS3 = NO FANBOY!!!

WIKIPEDIA "Fanboys are stereotypically aggressive and hateful towards the opposing brand or competition of their obsession regardless of its merits or achievements."

Before some smart-arse claims that i'm obsessed with hating Sony and that makes me an ANTI-SONY- FANBOY I'll point out again that ANY company that deserves negative press should and usually does get it, I've previously criticized Epson (printer ink rip off) Microsoft (too many windows related gripes to list) Sky TV and many more...

I feel pity, not hatred for Sony's customers untill they attack me with fanboyish propaganda.

OK, so you've won today's "I've got limited argument so I'll retreat behind cliche" prize. Now, what discussion point are you actually putting up against Slim?

Hang on, I'm not trying to win anything. I just found it funny that you stated
"What is also a shame is that will, no doubt, stoke the one-eyed, puerile, anti-Sony fanboy fires for weeks to come."Then Slim posted his reply...
Then after my slightly sarcastic comment, slim replied with an essay ticking all the boxes for being a "Anti Sony Fanboy". Now your having a pop at me for this mild dig, why? What am I retreating behind?

Nobody seriously believes that Sony has actually shifted the numbers of PS3s they are trying to claim. They have sent to shops this number, but actual sales are in the toilet and anyone with more than half a brain cell knows it.

Sony has treated UK and European people like muck by making us wait until they were good and ready to release their overhyped console, and to compound matters that have charged us much more for it. It is actually cheaper to purchase a Japanese PS3, pay import tax and shipping than to buy a UK one!

I urge people to get themselves a Wii or a 360, or a DS but show how you feel about Sony's treatment of us, and how we fell about its sales LIES by not buying their overpriced PS3.

Slim's posting seemed to indicate to me that she is not a fanboy of any particular camp or clique. Therefore, your post appeared to me to be missing the point.

I tend to enjoy the debates we have here in SPOnG - but I avoid cliché like the plague - so your use of the 'enough rope' trope made my blood boil like a that of a small but full leech on acid dropped into boiling water. However, on the day, I guess you're giving a 110% on the Forums and you can't say fairer than that as it's all swings and roundabouts in the final analysis 24/7.

Cheers

Tim

Slims a girl? I thought he/she was anonymous, How do you know? That would make her an Anti-Sony Fangirl, no? My understanding of a fanboy would be someone who blindly follows a particular thing. Your comment of attracting Anti-Sony Fanboys to this thread, would surely make slim fit that billing.
