Sega's E3 Striptease Day 3: Awesome Letdown

Pool game. Not Jambo Revolution. Still bears love

Last night, one SPOnG staff member had a dream about Sega, not as uncommon an event as you might hope for a 28 year-old game writer. The dream was set in a disused London tube station and featured Sega developers including Yu Suzuki and Yuji Naka, though Toshihiro Nagoshi, on the back of this news and our looming interview with him, was the star.

We spoke at length about Super Monkey Ball for Revolution, though the highlight was making fun of Naka while his back was turned. Nagoshi's paraody of his former boss was hilarious, it's execution perfect. Then everything went worng and we were running for our lives through the Facility level in GoldenEye, again an event more common than you might hope.

All of which leads us onto Sega's announcement for today. We were a little dissapointed when we first saw it. It's just a PlayStation 2 pool game, though is developed by UK-based Blade Interactive. The thing is, we love pool games, especially the bandit pool game developed by Amusement Vision that steals your money in various pubs and arcades. We could include another glib anecdote about this game and it's incorrect installation into a local boozer near SPOnG's London HQ and our subsequent pillaging of exactly sixty pounds per day for four straight lunchtimes, but we've indulged ourselves enough and the boss got angry recently about us mentioning slow news days in our copy so it's probably better to play it safe.

"Pool is a classic game that a wide variety of audiences can identify with," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, who's had to write 20 press comments in the past two days and is probably a bit tired. "With a host of exciting new modes and features, both World Pool Championship 2007 and World Pool Challenge 2007 will provide new avenues for virtual hustlers to rack 'em up."

The game, which may or may not include an online mode, will be available before the end of this year for PlayStation 2 and PSP.

Stay tuned for Jambo Safari Revolution tomorrow, followed by Emergency Call Ambulance for PlayStation 3 on Monday.
