There are rumours brewing regarding the latest incarnation of Sega’s latest version of Virtua Fighter. The fourth instalment of the groundbreaking 3D fighting game is almost ready for a worldwide arcade launch much to the delight of millions of people. The original Virtua Fighter was the first fighting game ever to utilise polygons to create the 3D characters and backgrounds. Each incarnation repeatedly ups the stakes of what can be achieved in real-time computer graphics.
Sega has decided that it is no longer profitable to continue its hardware business and believes its future lies in software. An understandable decision considering the current state of the videogame market, and the strength of companies like Sony and Microsoft. So far Sega has announced its intention to continue to support the Dreamcast with over 100 new games and to bring its titles to the Game Boy Advance and the PlayStation 2.
The thought of Virtua Fighter X on the Xbox is a mouth-watering proposition. The power of the Xbox will be more than adequate to accommodate the loveliness of the new fighting game. Virtua Fighter X will feature a more realistic, simulation type approach to combat that will be appreciated in a world of fireballs. Anonymous sources state they have already seen Virtua Fighter X running on Xbox development kits utilising true Xbox code. A far cry from Dreamcast emulation or using the questionable integrated Dreamcast chips. Regardless, if Virtua Fighter does make a debut on the Xbox later this year it will be truly stunning. More details soon.
