New Burnout and Tomb Raider dates announced

Welcome to 2006, the drought is nearly over

Posted by Staff
Eidos has just announced that the highly anticipated PC, PS2 and Xbox versions of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legends will be released in Europe on April 7th and in America on April 11th. Release dates for the Xbox 360 and PSP versions are still to be announced, but we are told they will be following closely behind.

An Eidos brand manager for Lara's next outing commented: “Everyone working on Legend is buzzing right now. We are all so excited that this totally new incarnation of Lara will capture gamers’ hearts, just as her original game did, and challenge their minds like no Tomb Raider they’ve ever seen.”

And that’s not even half of it. Whilst nowhere near as momentous news, here’s something to look forward to if your 360 is sitting in the corner of your lounge gathering dust. EA has just announced the release date on Burnout Revenge for the Xbox 360 – which will be releasing in America on March 7th and in Europe on March 17th. Whilst not a totally new title, Burnout Revenge will have the content of the current-gen games, souped-up with the power of the Xbox 360 plus ‘Xbox 360-exclusive content’. We'll bring you a review as soon as we get hold of it.

What with the PAL release of We Love Katamari for PS2 tomorrow, its almost like we have reached the light at the end of the dark and dreary post-Christmas release schedule tunnel.

I don't get what all this business is about Tomb Raider, really. The latest version "looks" not that different from any of the others.

I don't think it ever has been a bad game, or that there's been any reason to change it. Personally, I simply got bored of playing it after 4 or 5 sequels.

The other thing, that may or may not just be me, is that I didn't play it just because it had a girl in it.

As has been said many times before, given the camera angle and what's "on display" most of the time, I'd rather be looking at a girl for the umpteen hours I play the game.

I nearly died when I read that.

Massive upping of poly count. Smoother, higher resolution textures. Gameplay overhaul. Back to Tomb Raiding!

Lots of difference. This is the first time since the first game I've actually wanted to play a LCTR game.

I liken Tomb Raider to Joan Rivers. Another facelift, but still old and decrepid.

If CD and Core can learn from Prince of Persia and God of War, then Lara can be back on form.

The PoP games, especially Sand of Time, had the exploration bits very right. GoW had the involving storyline and level design right. The combat in both was sword-based, so doesn't translate well to Tomb Raider, but the levels of combat were appropriate to the themes of those other games.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the new Tomb Raider game, getting Tony Gard back on board will hopefully enable the game to get back to the roots of the experience.
