Ubisoft announced earlier this week that the release of one of its most highly anticipated new titles, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, has been put back from March to September of 2006.
This rescheduling, according to a company statement, "...is meant to release the title on all platforms simultaneously, including the Microsoft Xbox 360 that should have a much larger installed base by that time."
This is a shame, as it was one of a handful of titles pencilled in for an Easter release that we were really looking forward to getting stuck into.
The statement goes on to outline the thinking behind the rescheduled date, in that it “...will also enable us to maintain the highest quality for which Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is recognized. This rescheduling will ensure the best return from the coming release as well as from future sequels of this brand over time."
Boo! We know the PS2 and Xbox versions are nearly ready, Ubi – let us have 'em! At least Splinter Cell Essentials on PSP is still due out in March, which should satiate our Sam Fisher cravings till we get hold of Splinter Cell: Double Agent on PS3 and 360 in September.
