Outrun for PSP, PlayStation 2, PC – See the official release right here
Sony didn’t make any friends last week. Well it might have a made a few, but certainly not at SPOnG or Sega as someone there added Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast for PlayStation 2 and PSP to the firm’s marketing literature.

This would have been fine, however SPOnG has known about the games for some time and was working with Sega to bring you the scoop. Still, the PC version is a surprise though…

Not to worry – here’s the official final release in full, along with the logo. At time of press, all screenshot assets are with Sega Japan for approval, though expect them in the coming days.

The full release reads:

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (December 8th, 2005) – SEGA Europe Ltd. and SEGA of America, Inc. can exclusively announce OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, the latest instalment in the iconic OutRun series, will appear on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and PSP™ portable entertainment system for the very first time! OutRun 2006: Coast to Coast is set for release in March 2006 giving a new legion of gamers the opportunity to experience the thrills of this hugely popular franchise.

“Amazing Ferraris, incredible courses, beautiful girls - and all available on Sony’s PSP and PlayStation 2,” commented Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA. “The only thing you’ll be asking for is another go!”

With platform specific missions, the player will also be able to unlock PSP exclusive content by connecting with the PS2 version, and vice versa. Supremely good news that the OutRun 2 SP tracks won't be lost to arcade exclusivity, and even better that the series is being opened up to a wider audience. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first PSP game announced to link to the PS2?

With that being said, I know the sales weren't stellar but the port would be supremely easy (due to the sharing of arcade and home hardware), so why drop the Xbox version?

Also, that "license mode" had better not be an exercise in tedium and restriction best suited to Gran Turismo. I'd hate for the pick-up-and-play appeal of OutRun 2 to be lost.

This will sit nicely next to Sega Rally 2006 next year. And PS2 is a good choice since Xbox is now a second after thought for MS. Thanks Sega.

The PC version is indeed a surpise but I'm sure they'll welcome some console/arcade style gaming. I'm sure it'll be better once MS get that PC 360 style pad out for PC. It's about time they replaced the rusty Sidewinder with something decent. I'm sure Outrun would take good advantage of it.

If the PSP version has online multiplayer, I'm there. Just 2-player in the arcade is amazing. 8 (or even 4) player online would be knob-fiddilingly gratifying.

This is the best news i've ever heard EVER!, I love the Outrun series, it was the first game I played, and I was gutted when it was announced as an Xbox exclusive.

Now it's on PS2 AND PSP!

Excuse me if I sound a little over excited, but I have to say:

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! GET IN!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
