Figure, t-shirt, stuff.

Resident Evil 4 Bumper Pack for PlayStation 2 Revealed
Capcom US has shown a limited edition Resident Evil 4 Collectors’ Pack for the PlayStation 2 release of its toe-stubbingly wonderful horror action game, as already seen on Nintendo’s GameCube.

If you live in the land of America you can order it on Capcom’s official site here. And can you spot what’s wrong? Yes that’s right, someone set the text colour as black, the very same as the background of the page. Perhaps this is a clever example of viral marketing, making you really want to know what you’ll get for $119.99.

The contents listed are:

Resident Evil 4 for PS2
Biohazard Sound Chronicle Best Track Box
7” Leon Figure
Resident Evil 4 T-shirt

Which is, you know, better that a poke in the eye with a stick used to flick dog muck into your neighbour’s garden…

No word yet on a European release of the set, though Capcom has taken Konami’s lead and has been bestowing gaming goodies on the awkwardly multilingual continent, so there is hope.

We’ll keep you informed.

Is it me or does a hundred bucks sound a bit much?

I love how they've gone to great lengths in making a premium bundle for the PS2 version, as well as adding a few more weapons, when the game was designed solely for the Gamecube.

It would be nice if, for once, somebody would truely back a Gamecube release, instead of trying to ignore the fact that there is one. If there was a real interest in making the game for the Cube, then make it the best version.

Nice to see such concern for the GC but RE4 has already done the Biz for GC, and at least we'll still be able to have a blast of it once Rev is out, so don't get vex over it sir.

That Leon model/figure looks lovely and is the kind of games merchandise we never see much of but should. What Capcom should have done is just release the merchandise seperately so all fans can enjoy it, the same way they did with wth previous RE models of Jill, Chris and Claire etc (some of which were available in the u.s).

I'd love that model but not when I have to buy a PS2 game I don't need (I have the GC cut) , let alone use.

A collection of RE4 models like this (or those like the in game bottle stoppers would be cool) including all RE4 characters would be cool.

I assume that you mistakenly replied to me rather than to yon overly distraught fanboy...

Are Nintendo FanyBoiz the only ones who get so worked up over "exclusives"? I know SFBz (SonyFanBoiz) crow about them, but I don't rememeber them whining about them being "broken", like the NFBz seem to. Hell, I think I was more pissed off at getting PS2 ports a year late (on Xbox) than the SFBz were that I was getting them at all...and it was mostly that they were PS2 ports (i.e., did not make full use of Xbox' capabilities) than anything else.

I would have gladly waited as long as I did for the first Medal of Honor release on Xbox, but not for the Frontline that was delivered, rather for Allied Assault which was promised, Allied Assault on the Xbox would probably still be among the top console shooters had it been allowed to exist. But am I bitter? Well, OK yeah, I'm bitter, but about what I can't have, not about what someone else is able to get...

Mr Roi, put away thy sharpened tongue sir. I'm sure we all have our thing about exclusives but that's not why I posted last time.

Besides I think there is a difference between game merchandise and an actual game with extras on the disk exclusive to a console.

I have no problem with PS2 version getting disk extras since I don't plan to buy PS2 RE4 unless it a bargain bin extra and my GC copy also has got extras.

All I'm saying is that considering the legion of RE fans out there that you should be able to buy the merchandise separately, without having to commit to the PS2 copy and give away all that money.

This is especially so with next year being RE series 10th anniversary. Why not a whole collection of character models we could buy to celebrate the fact?

You just answered your own question(s). They are counting on at least some of the legion who already possess the GC version, to pony up for the LE PS2 version with exclusive figurine. Maybe they'll release the set of figurines later, pre-RE5, to squeeze evem more cash out...erhm. to tide the fanboys over, but THIS figure with THIS paint scheme remains exclusive to the PS2RE4LE. (Well, that and Preview...and er. well, Toys-R-Us...)

Well excuse me if I don't want to invest another copy of a game I already have. I'd rather go without the model if I can't get it seperately.

You are missingwhat I'm trying to say. I have copies of RE from PSone through to GC so you can put your fan boy boxing gloves away. It's a series that I own on more that one format so I'm only gonna pay for each game so many times before it gets tired. This is not about what format RE4 is on or has been on before, it's just about the stuff (t-shirt, model etc) they should have been selling us anyway.

So you are saying it's too much to ask them to celebrate the series 10th anniversary with stuff that anyone can buy, without pushing a game on the buyer that they might not need?

Fine, but I know there are plenty of other cool Capcom character merchandise out there. Leon looks cool but it's just stuff anyways. It's also the case we never see much of this kind of merchandise when we should.

Sell the bits seperately is all I'm saying (PS2 RE4 already has extras on it anyway that warrant it a buy for those who want it that badly) and more might invest in them because Ł120 is a lot of money many will save for 360 or something else.

I really don't care if you buy another copy or not, but then I don't care if you bought the first copy, or if you get the figurine, either.

I'm not missing anything, you're expecting way too much. And I'm not defending anyone's actions either, its just they way it is.

The bits probably will be availible seaparatly, later, for now you buy what they offer or you get nothing. I don't see the problem, unless you want to interfere with Capcom's ability to market and sell its merchandise the way it wants to, AND/OR whine about it...the first case, if possible would be more effective, if extremely unlikely, though I'd oppose it on a moral level, the second case is just as annoying as any other fanboy rant.

LOL. Jeez, the slings and arrows landing in my general direction.

Roi, you can say what the hell you like or label what ever as a fanboy rant, if you feel the need to do so. Agree to disagree, I don't give a monkeys.

As you can see with your own eyes, Ibuki of SF3 is my avatar. It's not there because I hate Capcom, is it?

Capcom can market their jibe how ever the hell they want to as it is there's to do so and I'm sure they will. However as much as I love their product I don't have to fooking agree with how they sell it or everything they do, same goes for MS, Sony, Nintendo and anyone else. Feel free to go along with whatever they say if you feel that way.

You should know very well by now if you frequent Spong, that if I see something I don't agree with I'm gonna say so whether you like it or not (like it or not that is who I am and I ain't gonna change for you or anyone). Feel free to ignore my posts if you can't put up a good enough arguement.

Frankly Roi, your counter arguement is lame. Just because Capcom wanna charge $120 you are dancing to their tune already, but that is your choice mind.

I collect game related merchandise as well as games so perhaps you don't get where I'm coming from, not just as a gamer but also as a collector and artist. There's always a way to get hold of something you really want if you know how anyway.

I'd like to see more models (and figures) based on game characters. The MGS and MGS2 figures (done by McFarlane Toys) were great quality for what you had to pay and faithful to the game characters they were based on. Now if you've seen these you'll know they were widely available. Joint to my point about this kind of stuff is why we can't see more of it not just from Capcom but others too? (think there's some Halo 2 ones already from Bungie so that a good step)

Follow link for examples of what I mean.

http://store.yahoo.com/cmdstore/vidgamacfig.html

There's nothing wrong with some character appreciation to sit on a shelf in your place, near your games is there? More RE models and figures, please (previous RE figures were dump but the RE/RE2 models were good, look at the RE figures on that site to see what I mean, no sign of the models mind).

Lastly I reserve the right to moan as well as praise those that I see deserve it.

If you check my posts back to a certain news post of Metroid DS not having online functions a while back and read my reply to it, you'll see that sometimes it helps to moan a little.

Now Nintendo have held Metroid DS from release to include the options. Whether I helped or not is irrelevant, what counts is that someone at Nintendo listened to the people in the street. Voices of fans can echo for miles online.

(Even if I don't get that Leon, I'm sure Ebay will provide me with one).
