Mario DS: Kart and Brotherly Screenshot Love!

Proper Mario, proper screens…

Posted by Staff
Nintendo has released some fresh screenshots of Mario Kart DS and Super Mario Bros. DS, both of which are slated to grace the twin-screened handheld in the coming months. Specifically, Mario Kart DS will be on sale on November 11 this year and - less specifically - Mario Bros. DS at some point in 2006.

Both games have basked in critical acclaim since they debuted with the wireless aspects of SMBDS bringing shrieks of delight to gamers at this year’s E3.

Nintendo had been on the receiving end of plenty of criticism for whoring out Mario to a certain extent while holding back on what would be considered as ‘proper’ Mario titles. Releasing a traditional Mario with co-op mode and an all-new Mario Kart should fill the void until Mario 128, dare we say…

So enjoy the new screens for now and check back for hands-on access to the latest builds of both games in the coming weeks.

but will mario kart be online?? I think that's the question every DS owner will want an answer to.
and by the lack of a certain ANIMAL CROSSING on the release list says to me that it won't be.

I must say, I'm not impressed by the graphics in Mario Kart DS, they should be comparible to MK64 but they look horridly boxy. Maybe thats the reason MK64 had kept 2d karts, cos 3d ones are too complicated for that level of graphics power.

The tracks look s**t as well, with playstation standard textures.

after seeing the game in action and not just on screenshots i have to say the graphics are A LOT better than the n64 game. Screenshots never do ds games any justice

Perhaps we should have a little bit more faith but I know what you mean, especially so after what happened with Metroid Hunters (not online when it should be).

Nintendo are known for doing things half heartedly so they best star putting their money where their mouth is at.

I think it looks okay considering MK was never bloody a graphics horse like Gran Turismo etc. when you pop that MK card into your DS you won't give a Donkey Kong/monkey's uncle what it's looks like. Perhaps it looks weird because SM64 was a tweaked port, whereas this MK is a new game altogther. If it's anything like N64 I'll like it because sometimes you have to look past the graphics to the golden gameplay beneath. Don't forget that.

Next time you think of graphics, think of the PSP and how it's doing on such great graphics but unchanged gameplay, count your blessings and remember why the DS is better than it and kicking PSP arse in sales.
