PSP: CMR 05, ToCA 2

Codemasters launches acronym attack for baby PlayStation.

Finally, over here in Europe the PSP’s disgracefully drawn out release is so near we can practically reach out and touch it. What better demonstration of its imminence could there be than the announcement of support from a big gun British publisher with its best known titles?

A look on the Codemasters website reveals that the software house, best known for its racing games, will be releasing its two flagship games for PSP, Colin McRae 2005 Plus and ToCA Race Driver 2 in September.

McRae is to feature more than 30 cars, the usual mix of Championship and Career modes and a multiplayer mode taking advantage of the console’s wireless capabilities.

Rally games not difficult enough for you? ToCA features 52 tracks and 15 classes of vehicles, including ice racing, Formula Ford and as every racing game seems to think it has to these days, street racing. It’s got rally as well, actually. Twelve players can play over wireless LAN and races can feature up to 21 cars, boasting the ToCA AI which is actually getting quite tough, as players of the last ToCA console versions will attest.

So the advantage of the PSP’s late release over here is that, if you like racing games, you’ll have more than just Ridge Racer to choose from. Which is good, right?
