Square Enix aficionados will be keen to know what transpired at the Square Enix party in Tokyo over the weekend. Naturally, there were plenty of Final Fantasy related announcements, with confirmation of FFXII’s arrival on the PS2 in March next year, and Kingdom Hearts II coming to the machine in December. Both games will make their way to Europe some time in 2006.
Still on a FF tip, the FFVII-based film Advent Children debuts in Japan in September, with a Western release date as yet unannounced. Also set in the world of FFVII is Dirge of Cerebus on PS2, which will contain both single player and online multiplayer elements, now confirmed as being well into development.
We’re most excited though about the return of the Seiken Densetsu series, or the Mana games as they are known in these parts. This excitement is mostly engendered by nostalgia for the SNES classic Secret of Mana. A game called World of Mana is set for a ‘multiplatform release’. We can be sure that one of these platforms will be the Nintendo DS. Squenix announced a Mana-based title would be heading to DS earlier this year, and sharp-eyed enthusiasts later spotted job adverts for DS specialists on their site. As for other platforms, perhaps a next generation release is not beyond the realms of possibility?
