Usually, a bit of movie tie-in news concerning a videogame is just what the doctor orders for a slow news day. And usually, movies based around videogames are complete and utter rubbish. But what have we here? A piece of news about a game movie that is actually, well, interesting, if not slightly uplifting…
Our friends over at
Aint It Cool have posted some snippets of information gleaned from the post-production phase of the upcoming Doom movie. And everything seems to shaping up very well indeed.
According to the seminal film news site, id Software has been closely involved with all aspects of the movie from the off. What’s more, it would seem that much of the speculation regarding the project is bogus. You may have read that there would be no Mars setting, no monsters and no mention of hell. This would all appear to be tripe.
According to the report, the Doom movie will indeed feature monsters - from hell no less - and in a Martian setting.
Fronted by the lycra-scented The Rock, or should that be Rock – whatever – the film will be R-rated (BBFC 18 in the UK) and be based closely on the originating games. Well, from what we have read, it will be closely based around Doom III, probably a good thing.
And why did The Rock take the part? Aside from the money, “I realised I could shoot the BFG,” he said.
Expect the trailer to hit theatres in the coming month, with the final movie expected in theatres at the end of autumn.
