If you’re planning on getting a PSP when they come to Europe in 2012, then you’ve every reason to be excited about Virtua Tennis World Tour. The SEGA arcade and Dreamcast classic franchise is coming to PSP in the US this autumn, though no release date for we undeserving Europeans has yet been revealed.
The names of the real life tennis stars that will appear in the game have been announced, though, and they are: freshly recrowned Wimbledon champ Roger Federer, Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, Lindsay Davenport, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Tommy Haas, Sebastien Grosjean, David Nalbandian, Daniela Hantuchova, Amelie Mauresmo and Nicole Vaidisova. Also included are the delectable young Maria Sharapova and our very own national hero/disappointment Tim Henman. It hasn’t been confirmed whether his legions of fans will pipe shrilly ‘Come on Tim!’ as he starts to choke again, though we think it would be a neat feature.
If none of the above luminaries take your fancy, then there’s a create-a-player mode. You can design your own star and hone his or her skills on the world circuit. As in previous versions on Dreamcast there are mini-games, but these are four all-new efforts exclusive to PSP – Balloon Smash, Blocker, Blockbuster and Fruit Dash. Also confirmed is wireless four player play, though each player will need their own copy of the game to join in.
More news on this highly anticipated classic-to-be, in particular a European release date, as we get it.
