Customisable Xbox 360 Hardware Shown

Changeable face-plate designs confirmed.

Customisable Xbox 360 Hardware Shown
Regular readers of SPOnG will no doubt remember J Allard’s hint that the Xbox 360 would see customisable face-plates offered to consumers, much in the same way mobile phone accessories offer tailorable aesthetic options.

“We have ways. We have ideas,” he said back at GDC. “Look at cellphones. You can have snap-on faceplates, you can change the skin and the batteries, and you can change the ringtones. I think we need to have a global foundation, and then personalise within region.”

And it would appear that the first glimpse of such personalised product has been shown via Ourcolony overnight in the US. As you can see from the image, several skins for the vanilla unit have been hinted at, all centering around the power button on the front of the machine.

As to whether different designs will feature different functionality remains to be seen, though expect clarification from this year’s pre-show event next week.

They should make them available with games. Imagine picking up Halo 2.5 and getting a free Master Chief faceplate. That would be a lot better than retarded looking designs.

Also note the presence of the letter "R".

We've have I,S,E,X and now R.

Hmmm. It's looking more and more like thREe SIXty, which means the SPOnG focus group leak might well have busted ourcolony's ultimate puzzle!

I actually understand their reasoning behind this. I don't know if I'll pick up any of these if they are extra money which I'm sure they are. I personally like the black and white photo looking one in the bottom left corner of the picture, and the one directly above it looks like the atari symbol for some reason.

I like this idea and I could see myself plopping down a few bucks for a Ninja Gaiden skin for my X-Box. I guess thats why they made it that white color... so that it doesn't overshadow the skins available.

I just hope they sell one neat package of console + HD + skin + game. Get it all in one kinda like the SNES Allstar package.

Well, at least it makes more sense than the ones a Gamecube mag kept giving away... and the stickers N64 Magazine used to give out to slap on your bumpy cartslot.

I'm saying that Microsoft's vision for the future, as you just stated there, is running the exact same non-inovative and money-making ways of the PC.

I play X-box a lot. I've beaten Halo 2. Even more, I use proper grammar. Awesome!

not everyone can be nintendo... microsoft is sure as hell, no nintendo... they do what they do, well... give peopel what they already want ... they may spend a wee bit on "inovations" i.e. live... but it was a fairly safe bet.they arent in the buisnes of takign risks... the only time bill gates takes a risk is trying to decide which competition to buy or leverege out.
you my friend, are stating the obvious yet again.... admitedly in an amusing way... but your fantastic grammar (and superior spelling) scarcely makes up for your lack of content.

however seeing as this is a forum for opinions... i have no point... post away amigo :)
