It would appear that one of our very own is set to front the world’s largest supplier of consumer electronics, with Howard Stringer - currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sony Corporation of America, and Vice Chairman, Sony Corporation - touted for the lead role.
This means that Ken Kutaragi, the man behind the PlayStation program and widely considered to be the driving force behind Sony Corp’s very existence as the force it represents today, will be left out in the cold.
Prior to joining Sony, Stringer had a distinguished 30-year career as a journalist, producer and executive at CBS Inc, launching shows including 48 Hours and the CBS Evening News.
A report by CNET claims that Kunitake Ando, number two executive at Sony, will step down and be replaced by executive deputy president Ryoji Chubachi.
The nomination for Stringer must be passed by a shareholder vote, thought likely to occur at the firm’s AGM in June of this year.
