The story of the silver PlayStation 2.

PhotoShop, a PlayStation, a Retailer's Website and Some Strangeness
As you may be aware, UK retailer Argos recently ran an image on its website of a silver coloured slimline PlayStation 2. That’s right, a unit that’s exactly the same in every way that the black one available, except it’s silver - like gold, but not as good. (Though arguably more fashionable right now. Except for white gold, which edges it. And platinum, which is like gold but posher.)

Anyway, the Internet exploded at this startling u-turn in colour coding policy, with bored gamers across the world disinterestedly wondering if a new colour of slim PlayStation 2 would be released.

Well according to Sony, it’s not, crushing the dreams of the SCE faithful. “We have not made any official announcements regarding any slimline PS2 hardware further to its release last year. This is purely speculative. The online images have been mocked and are completely unofficial.”

Argos has since withdrawn the item from its pages.

"Usage Note: In traditional usage, disinterested can only mean “having no stake in an outcome,” as in Since the judge stands to profit from the sale of the company, she cannot be considered a disinterested party in the dispute. But despite critical disapproval, disinterested has come to be widely used by many educated writers to mean “uninterested” or “having lost interest,” as in Since she discovered skiing, she is disinterested in her schoolwork. Oddly enough, “not interested” is the oldest sense of the word, going back to the 17th century. This sense became outmoded in the 18th century but underwent a revival in the first quarter of the early 20th."

And really, what sort of person do you have to be to point out a debatable flaw like this anyway?

Man with enough time on his hands to back up his arguments with facts. You can always rely on NiktheGreek to present a well-reasoned argument based on actual evidence, not wild speculation and fanboy ranting.

Of course, as Homer Jay Simpson once said, "Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that is even remotely true."

Indeed, popular usage has corrupted its meaning. However, even the original meaning; "unbiased, impartial, having no interest in an outcome" is still correct as used in the story.

Aside from pedantic frothing, I think it's a very bad thing for Sony not to release a silver PSTwo - I for one would prefer it as it would match my amp and PC.

Hmm, it is an interesting choice. Call me cynical, but I'm guessing they're holding off different colours for a later date to perk interest during a slump (perhaps summer).

What worries me more is that such a large retailer would advertise a product that apparently didn't exist, and would go to the trouble of photoshopping an image for it.

That is just the thing that Sony will do! I hate it when they won't sell the good stuff because they want the garbage to sell more first.

I don't see what's so garbage about a system you obviously want. Don't be mad your PS2 doesn't match your $10,000 limited edition boynk and pukeffson silver stereo. Actually, now I feel really ashamed to comment on such an obvious fanboy/idiotic (aren't they really just the same) statement.
