Donkey Konga 3! Screens and everything!

Plus: An investigation into Konga madness

Posted by Staff
Okay, so here are some screens from the freshly-announced Donkey Konga 3 for the Nintendo GameCube. As you can see, it has some kind of story mode, which we expect will involve scenarios that are solved by the magic of drumming.

But aside from that, it’s going to be the same Donkey Konga, just with new tracks and perhaps a few nips and tucks here and there.

So why do we, and so many others, become so overwhelmed with joy at the prospect of more Donkey Konga? For a start, you have to resign yourself to being more than a little camp with the game. It’s not F355 Challenge and it’s not 3rd Strike. It’s Nintendo’s big gay drumming game and perhaps the most incredible smile generation device ever created.

So, there’s some new screens from the third drumming extravaganza, due to hit Japan late next year only on the GameCube.

Why is everything (particulary Nintendo) Gay all of a sudden. Is there a new news writer for spong or something? I have to say this added 'humour' is really bad. And man you have gay issues...sort it out.

Oh please! Read the story and between the lines! It's obviously a joke, with a sideways reference to South Park's "Big Gay Al" and his "Big Gay Boat Ride". The story even says we are looking forward to this game!

The point was that it's not a big, butch game like car racing and shooting things, but is still very enjoyable. The story is asking you to embrace your camp side, enjoy testosterone-less gaming for a change!

I agree with the other poster, I don't think that prehaps "gay" was the correct word for this article.

I suppose it depends where you come from. Where I come from, the term "Gay" has for a long time had an extra meaning that has nothing to do with either being overly-happy or having a preference for men's bums. It just means...err...gay.

Stop being so f**king melodramatic!

Nintendo is the gayest and dandiest games company in the world. You can't dispute that.

That's a tricky one. The guy in the suit in picture, in the west we might look at as being a little too gameshow camp for us euros etc to stomach. For us to connect with him he'd have to dress in drag to be truly accepted (because some drag queens still like women, but in japan they'd probably go for his quirky bull.

I think there is bad use of english especially in the U.K. If you mean happy say that, but if you say gay, as in homosexual just say homosexual, to be correct. If you look up gay in the dictionary it might say both meanings, so please be clear what you mean.

As for Nintendo being what you say, I'd say look to their roots if you want answers. True Nintendo don't make as much or equal Testosterone product as you say Sega, Capcom Konami or Namco. But most of what they do make, be it cute in design or not always appeals to the varied masses. I do hope that Nintendo change this and put out some mature product, since they claim to want to change their kiddy image but haven't backed it up with mature games of their own, relying of Silicon Knights etc. They need more cool stuff like 1080 and perhaps Wave Race, but they are so reluctant to try themselves, and I'd love to known why.

New Zelda is a good start for them listening, but there needs to be more, even a samurai (yes I know about Odama, but it's not made by Nintendo is it?) or ninja or something with kung fu or karate, whatever. The east (let alone the world) has a rich history to draw influences from, so don't tell me they can't try something else. Sorry but Smash Bros Melee is nice, but not what I really want to see. DK3 again is nice, but we need more than that, TOO MUCH CUTE IPs NINTENDO. When will you learn we want sugar and spice from you, not just more happy sugar. My gaming teeth are gonna fall out soon, since with anything there must be a balance. Good thing I have my PSone and PS2.

Few of Capcom's next games are Shadows of Rome which looks blinding, as well as stunningly cool Okami, both use history and ancient mythology as a base. Only Nintendo game I can recall influence by mythology is Star Fox, which is years old now even with the GC cut due soon. SORT IT OUT, Nintendo.

Come on Nintendo show us your dark side (and I don't mean in Metroid or Zelda).

Again I'm with Joji.

Nintendo need to act adult.

With reference to gay, I understand that it isn't used much in a homosexual context anymore and I would agree that Kirby is a bit gay (awwww aren't the fishy kirby things cute!!) but the repetition gets a bit wearing.

Well, with gay, the writer obviously means happy. Nintendo has always been happy, it just wasn't as obvious in 8-bit arcade. 1-up mushrooms? Blue skies? Man, that's gay.

I don't think F-zero GX is gay. Well, maybe a Cap's suit a little bit. I don't think that Metroid is gay. Though Samus is a bit of androgenous. ;)

And stop whining about the gaything, please. Though I am a homo myself, I feel totally not offended by it cause I know it's not meant that way, and really hasn't got to do with anything.
