UK Charts – Actually interesting for once
For once the UK all formats chart has thrown up a few surprises, with this weeks ChartTrack listings making for an interesting read.

For a start, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been elevated to the number one slot again, following blockbuster sales at launch. Retail insiders have been banging on to SPOnG that this will be the case right the way through to Christmas, hinting at a stockpile drip-feed policy delivering just enough units to remain dominant. Guess we’ll see on baby Jesus’ birthday if it works.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is Half-Life 2 failing to gain a foothold higher than number three. Being beaten off (yes!) by EA’s masterpiece on plagiarism Need for Speed: Underground 2, strong competition and official downloaded versions from Valve’s Steam network, Half-Life 2’s chart position doesn’t reflect fully the impact of the title.

And what of Halo 2? The Xbox killer app sits at number 4, unable to compete with the installed base enjoyed by San Andreas, the lure of Half-Life 2 and the blanket-bombing strategy of EA. See the full charts here.

Dude, I can't see where these "surprises " are.

Halo 2 was bound to drop from the top and it will never see it again, not in all formats. Though one expects it's be at the top of the Xbox charts for MONTHS.

It was Obvious that San Andreas would be back on top after Halo's moment in the sun... just look at sales of GTA3 and Vice City, they both sold for months and months and months and months...

And Half Life 2... It might be the best game of all time, but PCs are a spent force in gaming. They are big, noisy clunky, live in the study or bedroom, need a mouse and keyboard. OK, PCs RULE for FPS games... but by and large, they are crap for gaming. Which is why Microsoft are pushing them for the Media Hub thing...
