Wow, aren’t geeks amazing? Not only do they, erm, what do geeks do? Well, one thing they definitely do is fiddle around with computers. A lot.

And when they’re not creating a Commodore 64-powered complete gardening solution, they’re doing this, making a version of Grand Theft Auto 3 in top-down mode for the humble NES, Nintendo’s world-conquering 8-Bit grey box.

The game, which will be made available free to download, is described by its creator Brian Proviniciano as being, “…a tribute to Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto III running on the 8 bit, 256x240 resolution, 2 bit colour x 2 bit palette, 1.79 Mhz system, written entirely in 6502 Assembly Language!”

Go Brian!

Now all that remains to be seen is whether Rockstar sees this as the brand-enhancing fun it is or tries to destroy Brian's life in some way. We're off to William Hill...

Dude, my bet is that BigRockCockStar try and ruin his life. I think they'll kill his cat, steal his car, and hire a lothario to seduce his girlfriend. Oh, wait a minute, he's a geek, he probably hasn't got a girlfriend.

This constut... cosnitut.... is copyright infridge... infinge... crime of the VERY WORST SORT - the sort that the good corporate citizens at Roc* can't make money from.

The fact is, because this terrorist is giving his criminal wares away for free, he will not have even amass a big enough pot of ill gotten gains to make it worth Rocks* taking him to court.
