PSP Gran Turismo 4 to hit Japan next spring

Seminal racer finally gets handheld date

Posted by Staff
Gran Turismo 4 Mobile, arguably one of the PSP’s most important titles revealed thus far, has now acquired a tentative Japanese release date. As with all things Gran and Turismo, subsequent delays are quite plausible; but as it stands, GT4 will be released for PSP at some point next spring.

There has been no information issued on prospective US or European release dates, although having GT4 ready in time for the machine’s proposed European launch around next March would certainly be a useful addition.

The PSP version is still set to recreate the most part of its PS2 cousin, and rather interestingly, will also benefit from wireless multi-player racing. Along with the announcements of some promising sounding, potentially life-sapping RPGs from Square Enix and Level 5, this multi-player action will pose another interesting challenge to the PSP’s battery life.

While a nice game for PSP GT4 is the kind of driving game that you have to spend to much time on, so much time infact that it hardly seem worth it. GT is a demanding game.

If I have the PS2 version, why would I want this version too? Driving games like Ridge Racer seem more suited to PSP, nice and short because that battery life is gonna cause problem in the long run for as different games require different play times. as for wi-fi gaming have the PSP die on you during the last lap would really take the cake.

I totally agree with you Joji. Ive never seen handheld gaming as demanding, with GT4 will no doubt be. Again, this will raise questions about the batteries for the PSP especially if you are using wi-fi.

I reckon though its till better for this to be released than not. A bit of choice never does any harm.

If you were to own both, and the savegame was to be fully portable between PS2 and PSP (as has been previously suggested) then you could continue your 'home' PS2 session when on the road.

This would be great for those of us that travel around a lot or don't have permanent access to the communal telly due to the currently Home Improvement heavy programming schedules :O)

It's certainly on my wish list...

Somebody mentioned an idea on here ages ago, you could tune up your car on the PSP and play it on the PS2. This has to make sense if the game saves are swappable.

Plus car trading via wireless networks would be a cool feature for the PSP version.

I think that may have been me, we discussed it at work.

That's a great idea too! You could have normal second hand prices in the game, but you can negotiate with others based on car swaps or even part swaps.

Is there any real link there though between the two systems? I doubt there is to be honest but it would certianly add an extra dimensoin to the game.

Its sopmething im sure we will see alot of in the future.
