Half-Life 2 – Launch details revealed
SPOnG last night received several SMS messages at ungodly hours foretelling the launch of Half-Life 2, rather a strange event for the release of a PC game. But then so is the hype-fuelled anticipation of Valve’s update to its beloved FPS original.

So here it is: the English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, Thai and Japanese versions are scheduled to hit retail on November 16th of this year, ending speculation that the protracted, somewhat ridiculous row that has been escalating between Valve and publisher VU Games would force its release into 2005.

The basic Half-Life 2 release, it was confirmed, will include Counter-Strike: Source. VU Games also promises a Half-Life 2 Collector’s Edition that will include Half-Life 2 in DVD-ROM format, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life: Source, a free limited edition t-shirt, and a Half-Life 2 Prima strategy guide book.

All that stuff in a basic Half Life 2 release? It sounds more like a special edition.

Nice to get some free stuff for waiting so long, this is perhaps the only way to dampen any damage done by the leaks before.

Just hope it doesn't end up on the net like Halo 2, though I bet someone will plan to do so anyway.

All what stuff? The story says HL2 just comes with Counterstrike:Src. Better than a poke in the eye, but not a huge bundle.
IIRC the original HL came with Counterstrike.

Personally, I'm very interested in seeing what they've done to the original Half-Life to make it work with the Source engine. At the very least there has to be hi-poly models and hi-res textures. At best, full utilisation of the physics engine.
