PS2 monkey business intensifies

Sony reveals Ape Escape 3
In a recent update to its official release schedule, Sony has added Ape Escape 3 (Saru Getchu! 3) to the PS2 roster. Alongside the previous Saru Getchi games, the Ape Escape Eyetoy game and Ape Escape Olympics, as well as at least one PSP Ape Escape title, not to mention the escaping apes cameo-ing in MGS3; that now constitutes a veritable barrel of absconding monkeys. No official details have been announced, but if Ape Escape 3 doesn’t involve apes - escaping, we’ll eat the screens that our words reside on.

Previous Ape Escape titles have been enjoyable, if a little unsubstantial, and with Super Monkey Ball raising the stakes for PS2 primate gaming, Sony may need to offer up something a little more involving than we’ve seen before. As soon as the concept evolves into something worthy of a more detailed description, we’ll update you.

We've known for ages that monkeys are just damn cool. First Donkey Kong then Ape Escape and Monkey Ball.

It's good that Sony are shouting more about games like the Ape Escape series. Building an IP catalogue and getting games established and well known is a problem that has plagued them for ages. We should all be able to say what games Sony make the same way we do for Nintendo and Sega etc. Hope AE3 is better than the previous PS2 effort.

Have to say though the presence of Ape Escape monkey in MGS3 confirms that Sony and MGS are very close. I wonder if this has anything to do with keeping MGS off of Nintendo systems? Apart from MGS :TS no Nintendo machine has had a proper MGS game of it's own since the GB Colour version.

Then there's also the lack of Konami games on Nintendo consoles, even GBA. Coincidence or just business?
