Capcom’s teaser website for its new mystery project has explained itself a little further today. It’s called Demento and it looks a bit spooky. Capcom is no stranger to bringing the fear, having helped establish the survival-horror genre with its seminal Resident Evil series. Clock Tower too has flirted with the dark shadows of heeby-jeebyness; but these franchises shall be momentarily cast aside as Demento creeps closer into view.
There’s not much to go on at this point. We could imaginatively construct a possible story based on the images flashed before us on the teaser website, but that’s Capcom’s job; so instead, we’ll just describe it in a matter of fact way. There’s a girl, there’s a creepy old man and there’s a haunted mansion. And there’s a definition of ‘Demento’, which is, apparently, insane: mad/bewitch.
Famitsu has suggested there will also be a dog and a giant: although where these fit into the game is anyone’s guess. As soon as Demento becomes something more than a lightweight sequence of largely meaningless imagery, which should hopefully be during the course of TGS, we’ll update accordingly.
