Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is going to be subject to some delay, according to an official announcement from Ubisoft today. Slipping away from the planned November release on Xbox and PC, there will now be a universal launch alongside the PS2 and Gamecube versions next March.
It does make sense to release the game for every platform simultaneously, as it allows Ubisoft to concentrate its marketing efforts. It will also help lessen the competitive blow struck by the large number of top-tier titles, including Ubisoft’s own Prince Of Persia sequel, readying for a pre-Christmas release.
With an extra few months on the calendar, Ubisoft now has the option to keep tweaking the Xbox and PC versions; so hopefully fans who were looking forward to a 2004 release will be appeased by the potential for a more polished final product.
If anything changes, we’ll let you know.
