Sega will be releasing a new historical Samurai game on PS2 in Japan this December. In development with Red Entertainment, the studio behind Gungrave Overdose, ‘Shinsengumi Ookami Den’ (Shinsengumi Wolf Legend) revolves around the exploits of the Shinsengumi – who were the ‘samurai policemen’ of 19th century Japan. Samurai policemen are only bettered in this world by ninja cowboys and alien pirates, so this should certainly be worthy of closer investigation.

It is shaping up to be an impressively stylised project too, with revered comic artist Watski Nobuhiro (the ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ artist) helping out with the design. With Sony’s own new yet ancient samurai game, Genji, also confirmed today, fans of arty historically based samurai adventures have never had it so good.

More info when it becomes available.

I second that (but in english), Sega have a good rep and after looking at Outrun, I'm sure they'll do a good job of Kenshin. Respect to Red is also due.
