Secret of Mana Series Continues on Gamecube? Brownie Brown Hints at New Project
Brownie Brown, the Nintendo-funded Tokyo-based development studio, has revealed today that it’s working on a brand new title. The company was founded by the makers of the Seiken Densetsu (Sword Of Mana) series, and with much of its staff consisting of former Square employees, its work has an appealingly distinct style, as seen in its GBA games Sword Of Mana and Magical Vacation.

No further details have been announced, although it’s strongly suspected that the new game will be heading for release on Gamecube. All we have to go by is the very preliminary design sketch that has clearly come straight from the “It’s Mr Pants” school of inadequate artistry. Three characters, two trees and one house are the only things ‘pictured’, although that would fit with the contents of Secret Of Mana's opening chapter…

A lot of RPG fans would give their right statistically-enhanced, armour-plated arm to get involved with a Seiken Densetsu game on the Gamecube. Perhaps this will be it. We’ll keep you in the loop.

Is it April 1st yet? LOL. That sketch is very bizarre considering, but who am i to judge.

Enough about my being able to draw better than that. Any new Seiken Dentesu game would be very welcome, since S.E concentrate so much on FF series these days.

Sword of Mana and before it Legend of Mana on PSone is all we've had.

I am still wondering why Magical Vacation never got released outside of japan, and no one has given an answer yet, not even Nintendo. Is this another RPG we are going to miss, even though it's Nintendo only? Come on BB, do the right thing and give us MV.

Can Spong shed any light on Magical Vacation, and what happened?

The Jap version of MV was released a long time ago - at the end of 2001, so I'm sorry to say that an English-lingo version is looking more than unlikely...

It's not on any release list for either US or Europe, which means it couldn't realistically be out before Q2 2005... which I strongly suspect would be too late to warrant a conversion (especially with new consoles on the market).

It seems like MV wasn't deemed suitable for western audiences (a) because it's an unfamiliar RPG (b) because it's a GBA RPG (c) because it's a traditional, turn-based textathon with relatively little action...

A US/European release wouldn't be completely impossible though: particularly if this mystery project turned out to use the Magical Vacation name (which is a fairly slim possibility), then there could be scope for some kind of coinciding GBA release.

I wouldn't put money on it though. The Animal Crossing delay was generally regarded as a bit ridiculous and that was only 2 years...

Ah well.

Haha. We've already seen Cloud Vs Donald Duck and Samus Vs Kirby in the past, though. So I guess nothing is impossible!
