Empire's Starship Troopers scuttles into view - gameplay video inside!

Strangelite spawns a horde of scary insect things.

Empire Interactive has today unleashed a gameplay footage trailer for the upcoming Starship Troopers, based on the film of the same name. The movie itself was a thoroughly enjoyable honest-to-goodness action flick, and the game also looks like it’s avoided any whiff of pretentiousness. Where as some sci-fi plotlines insist on introducing sub-par aliens with intelligent cultures, big eyes and missing digits, Starship Troopers just goes for what is blatantly very scary - massive hordes of giant insects.

Somewhat predictably, the game is a straightforward FPS. However, the lack of slow stealthy creeping and mind-altering abilities seems like a refreshingly positive thing. In place of such ‘innovations’, developer Strangelite has simply created an engine that can handle a huge number of on-screen enemies. We’ve managed to get our hands on the full trailer, so take a gander and see what we’re talking about, ahead of the game's PC release in Q2 2005.

I really hope this game comes to consoles too, it looks cool and should prove interesting, perhaps a sleeper hit with Half Life 2 due soon. I hope it does well and does not end up forgotten aongst the other fps games out there.

We've been waiting for this game almost as long as Half Life 2 if not longer, so I do hope it delivers.

It looks like it will come to consoles. On the developers website(strangelite.co.uk) in the job listings it says:

"or maybe your a brilliant Xbox programmer who can make Starship Tropers stand out on Xbox"
