Empire Interactive has today unleashed a gameplay footage trailer for the upcoming Starship Troopers, based on the film of the same name. The movie itself was a thoroughly enjoyable honest-to-goodness action flick, and the game also looks like it’s avoided any whiff of pretentiousness. Where as some sci-fi plotlines insist on introducing sub-par aliens with intelligent cultures, big eyes and missing digits, Starship Troopers just goes for what is blatantly very scary - massive hordes of giant insects.
Somewhat predictably, the game is a straightforward FPS. However, the lack of slow stealthy creeping and mind-altering abilities seems like a refreshingly positive thing. In place of such ‘innovations’, developer Strangelite has simply created an engine that can handle a huge number of on-screen enemies. We’ve managed to get our hands on the full trailer, so take a gander and see what we’re talking about, ahead of the game's PC release in Q2 2005.
