Another GBA Re-design to make you green with envy

This one's both Pokemon-related and also emerald-coloured

Posted by Staff
To celebrate the release of Pokemon Emerald, the successor to Sapphire and Ruby, Nintendo of Japan will be doing its usual SP makeover re-style thing. This latest GBA SP special edition bears all the hallmarks of a limited run console, it's of an unprecedented hue, and you can't buy it outside of Japan.

After close examination of the new SP's homepage we discovered that the new machine is green - much like a leaf, pea or indeed, emerald - and is gracefully illustrated with an etching of a small dragon-type creature called Rayquaza.

That's about all there is to say - apart from the Japanese release date, which is around September time for both the special edition SP and the game itself.

I hope sony can keep up with all of this hand held innovation we see from Nintendo.

I want Jak PSPs and Primal PSPs and Spiro PSPs.

:-)

Cheap, gimmicky nonsense IMO. I know a couple of guys who have a few different GBA versions. The Tribal, ToS edition and the NES version. A expensive collection methinks.

Yeah, but it's good to have a hobby. And as collections go, it's not that expensive, I know a guy who collects Tag-Heuer watches, and several who collect cameras.

And if these folks didn't have a hobby, they'd just spend their money on crack and prostitutes.

Let's overlook the fact that you call them "cheap" then go on to say collecting them is "expensive".

Ooh, you are a touchy little dear, aren't you. You only react to the criticism, not the point being made.

If you don't mean price, what do you think you mean? What do you imagine the etymology of the obloquious use of "Cheap" to derive from?

What's wrong with people collecting the different GBAs? It's hurting no-one, it's helping Nintendo.

There is nothing wrong with Collecting GBA's, ididnt say that. I just thought it was a bit of an expensive hobby.

They are nice collection pieces alright but they are gimmicky and Nintendo are cashing in on it a bit. I did like the NES edition but i certianly wouldnt cash in my GBA to repurchase it or buy another for the sake of a collection.

Yeah, but many hobbies are expensive. Try snowboarding ;-)

I mean, Nintendo are clearly designing these things to help sales... and thay are clearly hoping that some people collect them... but there aren't (and can't) forcing people to collect them. It just give new buyers some choice, which is cool. And if you already have a GBA and one comes out that you REALLY must have, you can always sell your old one, or put up with what you have. I think they're cool, though I don't have a GBA - I just borrow the office one when I need one.

Well I think it's nice to have a different colour option especially since the price of GBASP will drop soon anyway, due to DS coming out.

The idea might be cheap in some peoples minds, but that's just plain bull in reality. Sony have done the same thing with PS2 Platinum thus helping their sales again, so don't throw bricks when you live in a glass house.

Nice option but a japanese only release for a good reason. Like the Emerald green, looks kind of military. Wouldn't surprise me if Sony did the same kind of thing with PSP, because despite it being a just a cosmetic change it does seem to stimulate sales.
