Doom III demo confirmed – Work commences

Final game gold, id targets official release

Posted by Staff
As reported this week, Doom III has gone gold, with both developer id Software and publisher Activision declaring the current build as final. And today more good news, as id CEO Todd Hollenshead confirms that work on a demo as about to commence.

“Our priority was finishing the game first and now we are turning our attention to the demo," declared Hollenshead. “We will release the demo as soon as it's done, but this probably won't happen until after the game has arrived on US store shelves.”

Although a pre-ship demo of the finished game is unlikely, a three-level demo of the game was leaked last year, versions of which, now much-tweaked by various bedroom coders, are still widely available.

They better hurry up! Maybe they can do without it, but Id has always lured in gamers with their demos (Doom, Quake III, etc.) It's a great way to introduce players to the game. This post-retail distribution makes me a little weary.
