Spike offers new fire-fighter game - Hard Luck revealed
Developer Spike has announced that it is currently working on a brand new fire-fighter game, called Hard Luck: Return of the Heroes for PS2. Following in the ashy footsteps of Konami’s Firefighter FD18, the player will assume the role of a fireman trying to contain a fire that’s blazing out of control through a 30-story multi-purpose building. Housing a shopping mall and offices, the tower should be full of things that bubble and burn in ways that appease even the most maniacal pyromaniac.

There should be a suitably panic-stricken atmosphere, as there’s a strict time limit within which to complete the game, i.e. - before the skyscraper collapses into a heap of burning embers. However, to avoid permanently traumatising the player, Spike has seen fit to cel-shade the visuals, which might also allow a comical aspect to be cast upon the proceedings.

Thus far, there is no news with regards to a potential European or US release, although if Hard Luck is received well when it’s launched in Japan this autumn, it would seems a perfectly feasible prospect.

Sounds cool. Get to play Towering Inferno in my home. Fires to put out and people to save. Cool, or should that be hot stuff?

Question is will the U.S get a release of it, if the game is about fires, firefighters and potential collapsing buildings? Those post 9/11 sensitivities might arise again.

Well, that pretty much takes care of any effort I had to put forth to become an actual hero. Hurray for technology!
