Riddick's Chronicles to open new chapter?

VU 'strongly considering' a sequel to current Xbox hit

Riddick's Chronicles to open new chapter?
The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is one of those rare examples of a movie-based game that completely outperforms the film it's based on. Reviews of the Vin Diesel cinema outing have been almost universally damning, whilst critics have lavished the Xbox-only game with praise aplenty. So Vivendi Universal's plan to bring the game to PC as well should come as no surprise.

VU has also stated that it is 'strongly considering' the option of developing a Chronicles Of Riddick sequel, encouraged by Variety's sales estimates of the current title, which is expected to gross $15 million. As VU is desperately trying to turn around its financial fortunes, a sequel to such a surprise hit would make perfect sense.

It seems that Vivendi's 'transition phase' is well underway. Expect more Riddick sequel news as soon as it becomes available.

This must be the first film license game to grace one format since Goldeneye. And it's looking mighty fine too but it would help if more of us could watch the film and enjoy the game witout having to buy an Xbox, like Spiderman 2 or even cheesy Shrek The Game. It's poor that this has not been exploited to the full.

If you wanna turn around your fortunes you should be looking at a few more formats than just Xbox, before going for a sequel and doing the same.

I take it you are implying a PS2 version. Unfortunately as you said, VU are in the middle of financial troubles and from the look of the game it would require a heavy development period to get the game running on the PS2, i am not saying it isn't possible but you only have to look at the difference in the development time between the two versions of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The Xbox version was converted in 6 weeks, it took nearly as many months to convert the PS2 version.

While it would appear to be a good choice to try to release it on the PS2, it would be released a) far to late to take up on the hype of the movie and b) in the middle of the christmas rush in which even the titles of Activison, Microsoft (excluding Halo 2) are not guarenteed shelf space.

They would also need to consider if they could break even, never mind make a profit from the overheads that would be created by creating a PS2 version.
