Mario Tennis Internet push flares again...

GameCube online goes to umpire for decision.

As you may be aware, Nintendo America has been making some noise about the possibility of GameCube Mario Tennis being an online game, or at the very least supporting the console's dusty broadband adapter.

In shenanigans reminiscent of the DS/Nitro developer website saga (on which NOA changes the name of the DS three times causing mass confusion) the page for Mario Tennis claimed that the game would indeed support the broadband adapter. Then it was changed to leave no reference to the Phantasy Star enslaved peripheral whatsoever. Well today, it's been changed back again, though with no reference to what the adapter might actually be used for.

The game, developed by outsourced studio of choice Camelot Software, supports four players on screen at one time, making the LAN option fairly pointless, so online play is considered a more likely route for the adapter.

Interestingly, in the last few hours, NOA's website has again been changed, with the broadband adapter now being removed. What is going on?

We contacted Nintendo this morning, with a spokesperson saying '...as far as we are aware, Mario Tennis for GameCube is 1-4 players.'

A request for clarification is currently with NCL and is expected to be answered within the next two days. We'll bring you details then - stay tuned.
