Burnout PSP and Burnout 4 confirmed

Manic racing series shows no sign of burning out.

Criterion Games has confirmed that it will be bringing a Burnout game to the PSP. Such an announcement is hardly surprising, but it is great news nonetheless. For driving game fans the Sony handheld is now rapidly gaining favour, and with Burnout’s yang now tempering Gran Turismo’s ying, the PSP has all bases covered.

Although Criterion declined to elaborate on the specific form of Burnout PSP on the grounds that work on Burnout 3 has yet to be fully completed, we can exclusively reveal that EA has also signed Burnout 4 for a major home console release. The game is already a feature of the internal tracking system at the UK office in Chertsey.

At present, neither game has been given a final name - they are currently known under the working titles of Burnout PSP and Burnout 4.

For those more concerned about the here and now, Burnout 3: Takedown is on course to be an absolute classic, and is due for release this September. Stay tuned!

Cool but not surprised by this. If GT is gonna be there games like this will follow suit, most likely because PSP is so close to PS2 quality, whether this is via emulation or not is another matter for discussion.

It won't be long before the PS2 back catalogue turns up here and this is part of that.

Sweeeeet.... but Criterion... I'm not going to buy 2 versions of the same game... I want something different if I'm going to bother with the PSP version.

I don't think Sony will really give players that much compensation for getting the PSP or PS2/3 version of the game. Another reason why I'm still sketchy about Sony's strategy.

And remember when Burnout used to be on the Gamecube? Ah, those were the days...
