DS Edges PSP in Japanese Developer Poll

Nominal survey reveals that DS has early lead in handheld race.

As the 'PSP vs. DS - which is best?' debate continues to intensify, Japanese games magazine Famitsu has issued a poll to the games industry big-hitters in an attempt to discern which is best. Not content with waiting for the finished products to actually emerge, the participants have offered up their predictions for how the battle will pan out.

According to the final score, the DS is better. Do remember, however, that the PSP has yet to display playable games, giving the DS an inherent advantage in the eyes of speculative observers. The high number of 'Don't Know' responses also reflects how difficult it is must be to make such predictions with even a semblance of accuracy.

Well Famitsu, this just seems to me to be meaningless speculation in statistical form.

If both machines were out, and people were asked which device had the best games, features etc. then that might have some impact.

I still think PSP will come out with the edge, but it does look like they'll both serve different markets so it doesn't really matter.

You shouldn't all act so suprised by this. Famitsu is just echoing the voice of the dev people. Their outlook may be very different from yours, allowing them to see DS benifits to new gameplay over PSP, which basicly gonna do the same as previous model but in your pocket.

I glad some out there can see the potential on offer, and then use their brains to make the magic happen.

As Spong said themselves:

"Not content with waiting for the finished products to actually emerge, the participants have offered up their predictions for how the battle will pan out."

It's prediction and nothing more, there's very little to have based these things on even with dev kits in place. You could have made the same poll about PS3, Xbox 2 and Nintendo 'Revolution' and people would have responded just as strongly (if not stronger) and it would still mean just as little.

I'm not being cynical just for the sake of it, it's just that articles like this will fuel unbased preconceptions and unjustly affect both machine's runnings.
