Today's update to Lionhead's own online developer diary, The Lionhead Times, has suggested that the eagerly awaited and apparently revolutionary Xbox RPG Fable is on schedule and finally nearing completion. That means that the US September release date and the European October release date should be met without too much difficulty.
Although there is still no substantial news regarding Fable's storyline, there have been a few golden nuggets of interesting gameplay features dropped into this latest journal update. It is now possible to decapitate people and use their heads as footballs. If you happen to be a bad loser, you can even kick the aforementioned head/ball at superior Fable players, thus crushing their smug little faces. If that doesn't satisfy such sinister and violent tendencies, the standard array of crossbows and clubs may have to suffice.
Another unusual feature is the inclusion of gay marriages. Video games don't often do weddings, let alone same-sex ones, although quite how this choice affects the gameplay has yet to be revealed. It has also been announced that there are four completely separate endings, depending on how the game has unravelled - maybe they're related to sexual preference and number of heads kicked? Once again, Lionhead are refusing to shed even the merest glint of light onto the nature of these conclusions. However, it has been confirmed that the game doesn't have to finish after viewing the ending. Successful players will be able to continue their explorative quests around the world of Albion long after the main mission has completed. The post-finish gameplay will also vary dramatically, as the environment will have changed as a result of the player's actions.
It all sounds quite peculiar, yet hugely intriguing. Xbox owners would do well to clear a space on their shelf in time for Fable's release in October.
