Carmageddon is once again revving its engine in a menacing fashion as it prepares to tear back onto the PC and Xbox in 2005. Stainless’ brand of hugely distasteful vehicular unpleasantness will be published by Sci and could have a few surprises in store. When the original was first released, it was certainly a novel concept, particularly with regard to the free-roaming and uber-violent aspects. Since then, however, we have seen this flavour of gameplay explode, following the huge successes of GTA and other games of that ilk. Now that the stakes have been upped so dramatically, this next Carmageddon will have to be even more expansive and shockingly bloodthirsty than before. Bearing in mind the first game had a wiper function to scrape bits of brain off the windscreen, Stainless must have something inconceivably nasty awaiting us.
The new project is currently dubbed Carmageddon 4, but seeing as there was no Carmageddon 3, it’s an unlikely title for the finished article. When it does arrive next year, expect a cross between GTA and Crazy Taxi with an extra side serving of rotting human offal, as well as a totally justifiable 18 certificate rating.
