Tekken 5 Chooses Platform, Sets Dates

Namco fighter to see coin-op exclusive period.

Posted by Staff
Namco Japan has revealed various important info snippets relating to Tekken 5, the latest in the series of super-popular 3D fighting games.

According to a shareholder brief, Tekken 5 - running on the System 246 arcade platform - will ship globally this summer, seeing a greater arcade penetration than any other release in the series. Namco stated that several test locations will be announced within the next few days, and also confirmed that the development team will be taking constant feedback from users for the home version.

Which brings us nicely to the other pertinent Tekken 5 news, namely - and unsurprisingly - that the game will be exclusive to PlayStation 2 and will ship in the first half of 2005. In these days of the games industry using the term 'platform-exclusive' in the loosest possible way, it is likely that Tekken 5 will remain faithful to its betrothed machine.

Expect full updates, screens and hands-on impressions of Tekken 5 as we get them in the coming weeks and months.

You realise, of course, that if it had been you, and not Slime Stallone in the hero protaganist role in the remake of the classic 1971 Mike Hodges gangster movie, it would have been called "Get Funky".

And James Brown could have done the title theme.

I'm no futurist, but anything that helps out the arcade is okay in my book.

<cough> Shamelessly ripping ideas off from Virtua Fighter 4 <cough> Series dead on it's feet <cough> Namco should concentrate on the Soul Calibur series because at least that's good and plays more like Virtua Fighter.

Ooh - cat amongst the pigeons.....:-)
