John Woo, the famous 'Hard Boiled' Hong Kong film director, is reported to be making another foray into the world of videogames. He’s already on the cards to direct the Metroid film, and now he’s also going to be working on an adaptation of Midway’s recently revived Spy Hunter game. Spies, guns, massive explosions and heavily modified vehicles will feature heavily, and that combination should be the perfect recipe for a classic action flick.

With any luck, Spy Hunter the movie will retain John Woo’s trademark high-octane style of direction, thereby offering more excitement than the 2002 game (which, frankly, was very disappointing). Due out in 2005, Spy Hunter could do for films-of-games what GoldenEye did for games-of-films. Mind you, The Rock has been cast in the lead role, so it might just be a complete waste of time.

And lo, the game to movie flood accelerates from a trickle. John Woo already has the Metroid movie on the cards too. Well I think SH has some potential, but making any spy flick it's hard to make it original. I'll keep my figures crossed for this and Metroid.

If Hollywood don't be careful they'll just be picking up any old crap game to make a film out of. It still makes me wonder where the hell is the bloody MGS movie, and all the other games with the decent storyline.

Also just announced was John Woo's involvement in the new "Double Dragon" movie; a heart-felt retelling of the story of a man's girlfriend going off with some other dudes, leading a lonley ex-boyfriend to an uncontrolable rage which causes him to beat up every single person in the entire city and its outskirts.

More on that coming soon, I'm sure.

Wow, Woo's got a genuine VG to movie production line going. Which is a shame, because he used to make good movies... but it's been a long time since The Killer.

Maybe he should make five more Killer sequels, then when the Killer 7 game comes up for a movie, he'll be the obvious choice to direct.
