Sony was never going to have much trouble in getting developers on board for the forthcoming PSP handheld, so it comes as no surprise to see that the list of supporters is more than comprehensive. All the major players are there – if they make games, and they like money, you can bet that they’ll be getting involved. As anyone from Nintendo would point out, the PSP is following standard gaming precedents, and because of this, developers might find the creation of PSP games significantly less taxing than the creative demands required for DS development.
There will obviously be an extension of many of the biggest videogame franchises. Electronic Arts, Konami, Capcom, Sega, Namco et al will surely offer a few straightforward handheld conversions in the early stages of the machine’s launch. However, in the longer term, more innovative uses of the PSP may be revealed. SCEI claim that there are already several major music and movie companies trying to get in on the act.
Expect plenty more PSP news over the coming week.
