Sony shows PSP!

Specs and first shots inside.

Around the same time as Nintendo's unveiling of its new DS console, Sony, as promised, finally unveiled its own portable offering, the PSP. Sony released the first ever images and detailed specs of its new handheld powerhouse at an early morning press conference in Los Angeles.

The PSP itself is nothing short of breathtaking, with the final hardware looking rather similar to the prototype shot release several months back. The official specifications are as follows:

Colour: Black

Dimensions: 170mm (L) x 74mm (W) x 23mm (D)

Weight: 260g (including battery)

CPU: PSP CPU

Memory: 32MB

Embedded RAM: 4MB

Display: 480 x 272 pixel 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD

Speakers: Built-in stereo speakers

Ports: USB 2.0, Memory Stick

Disc Drive: UMD Drive

Power: Built-in lithium-ion battery, AC adaptor

Access Control: Region coding, parental control

That's exactly what was on show at Sony's Pre E3 conference. And to back up its hardware, Sony also had a diverse library of software running on PSP. Ape Escape, F1 Racing, Medieval, Metal Gear Solid, Need for Speed Underground, Tiger Woods, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Dynasty Warriors, NBA Street, NFL Street, Twisted Metal and Wipeout were all running on the handheld in what was a hugely successful event for Sony.

Sony, Nintendo - let battle commence.

We'll have more on PSP direct from the showfloor later on, but for now, stay tuned.

I agree the PSP does look sexy, I heard the current DS design is a prototype much like the previous PSP one. Either way both of them look fine indeed, and I'll be getting both. We'll see in time.

PSP graphics look better so far, but we half expected that, however I'm hoping the games will do the talking more now, for both system. PSP games line up looks cool too. I love the widescreen and the cover idea. Well done Sony.

Pretty Sexy Portable

Looks much better than that hideous, boxy, college kid design by Nintendo (Dismal Styling?)

The PSP display is just gorgeous, and if the screeens are to be believe, the power density is amazing.
