It has come to light this morning that Nintendo will be revealing what has been described as a key franchise at next week's E3 in LA.

The new franchise is to take pride of place at this year's event, though any specifics are as yet unknown. Various US media outlets have already had access to information, though under strict terms of non-disclosure.

Frustratingly, there's little else to be said on the matter, other than to underline that Nintendo will roll out a Pokemon-sized franchise next week.

We're as excited as you are. Watch this space!

Despite all the NDAs, I can exclusively reveal the name of Nintendo's new franchise:

"The Legend of Yamauchi: How We Stubbornly Pissed Away Our Market Dominance"

Available in all key territories (except Europe) featuring required 4-player GC to GBA linkup, rrp £499.99

(Final product may bear some reseblance to any number of our NES titles from the 80s)

This is awesome. I have to admit...my faith in Nintendo was beginning to faulter...well until Resi 4 was announced. I really can't wait for E3 now. Every Franchise Nintendo make is awesome, well I've thought so, they might not be doing well in the console war and treating all markets fairly...but they are still the best Games developers in the world.

New games for Nintendo and Sega...E3 will be gaming heaven! :oP

Schnide, you forgot to mention that it is being aimed at the growing console market of 6 years and under. Plus they are planning a massive advertising blitz of a quarter page, black and white ad in the beano annual

Even if it is a brand new franchise that is completley new to the market in its entirety, Nintendo will still put a "2" after the title.

Lets hope it's something completely new. God knows we need a new Nintendo game, preferably something with some bite to it. Kind of tired of cute titles. Whatever it is, I'll give it a chance though.

Silly me! How could I forget such effective campaigning from Nintendo?

You think maybe they'll do a special edition of the Official Nintendo Mag where they run to an extended twelve pages (including free gift of Legend of Yamauchi toast rack)?

I can also exclusively reveal that if you have a broadband adapter installed, you can't have online play BUT holding down the Z trigger upon startup gives a repetitive sound of laughter - using Pro Logic II surround - right in your face! Yes!!

That sounds amazing. The broadband adapter isn't useless afterall! Now if only I could find one...

I think I may settle for a 56k modem, I heard that if you hold down the z-trigger on boot up with that you don't get laughter but a code to enter into the stars shat-a-logue to get a free wallpaper!!!

I got $10 here that says it's gonna be a platformer with some cute, obscure animal as the star, like say a Koala bear named "Bingo."

Nope my money is on a new strategy management sim, where you get to play the part of a cuddly cartoon version of Bob hoskins, who has to attempt to make the worst possible career choices and get sworn out of hollywood. they'll release the rights to EA who will immediately release another version 6 months later where you get to play the part of a board member to a japanese entertainment electronics firm, where you have to make the worst possible technology and maketing choices to get your product sworn out of ever former divotees home. 6 months after that they'll release another verion...
