Nintendo of Japan revealed in the latest issue of essential Japanese gaming weekly Famitsu that the man "held responsible" for Mario Sunshine, Takeshi Koizumi, will unveil a new title at this year's E3, sparking intense debate from the leagues of Nintendo fans around the world.

Sunshine is arguably the least popular of all Mario’s outings with the game failing (understandably, so it could be argued) to live up to consumers' expectations and the sublime standards set by Mario 64.

It seems highly unlikely that Sunshine will see a sequel as some outlets have suggested, though exactly what Koizumi-san will show should be interesting to say the least.

We’ll keep you updated on this breaking story next week.

Personally, I'd like something else new and different. Hope the announcement will be for just that.

The next Mario game is Mario 128 (the proper sequal to mario 64)

Nintendo clain that its completely revolutionary and that if glymses were shown at last years E3 they would be stolen on site

Im ecspecting a lot from this

They said the exact same thing about Sunshine, and the only difference was that Mario had a water nozzle.

Although to be fair, Sony did unveil a line of "water nozzle" platformers just after Sunshine was unvelied, including the ever popular "Ratchet and Tank".

As for "Mario Sunshine 2", it probably won't happen for awhile. Sunshine was a middle of the road Mario game (which is to say superb game, just not Mario 3 or Mario World standards), and they'll look to change Mario for the better with the "Mario 128" project.
