Up in smoke - Factor 5's Star Wars Rogue Squadron imitates life
In a devastating double blow, Nintendo has suffered the loss of two key development studios in the last 48 hours, with both Factor 5 and Silicon Knights announcing the end of their existing relationships with the Kyoto giant.

We told you all about Silicon Knights' withdrawal from its exclusivity deal with Nintendo in yesterday's news, but now in a potentially more damaging blow, Factor 5 has also stepped away. Factor 5 president Julian Eggebrecht said that the firm would no longer be developing any software for any Nintendo platform, hinting at a less than amicable split.

It was thought that Factor 5 was underway with PilotWings for either GameCube or Nintendo's next home console. Obviously, this is not happening anymore.

Interestingly, Eggebrecht stated that Factor 5 would not be showing anything at this year's E3.

Hmm, I smell an IntelliRat(TM) both here and over at Silicon Knights. Hope they get to keep Retro Studios, at least until Metroid Prime 2 is done...

As you can see this isn't good news, and is quite sad for Nintendo, and just before E3 too. The list is growing smaller as more folk put their cards into the Sony ring. Nintendo need some new friends fast.

My guess is this has to do with PSP, since most softcos wanna get onboard early this time. Good luck to Factor 5.

All websites I have read the news about Factor 5 state that they are not making games for the Gamecube any more. It doesn't mention the GCNext, the DS or the current GBA.

Silicon Knights have mearly ceased their exclusivity with Nintendo and have stated that they may produce games for the Gamecube in the future.

Half truths, Spong should check their facts.

Gamespot have a small interview with factor 5 which states that the only reason they are not developing games for the Cube is "simply because we have moved onto next gen development and any talk of us dropping dropping Nintendo platforms altogether is just not true".

So in a nutshell- no games for ANY of this gens consoles. But games for multiple consoles next gen.

well, this isn't that great a surprise. there was news months ago that factor 5 were going to release rogue squadron trilogy on xbox, featuring enhanced versions of the 3 games, and perhaps more.

silicon knights loss is a bigger blow, after all, factor 5 haven't made a decent game since turrican 2. :)

Julian Eggebrecht merely said that they have finished with the GameCube. Which is not surprising given the Time it takes for them to make a Game and the Fact that Nintendos next console will probably be out in 2005. He did not say that they have finished with Nintendo. In Fact he said that they were very intrested in both the DS and GCNext.

Oh dear, yiu should have read spong's story properly. The quote from Factor 5 states clearly that the'yll possibly work with Nintendo again. What's all this about giving up on Nintendo for good? The story didn't say that.

Read the story again and read what nickedoo has written on this thread - he sums it up finely.
