Samus movie due next year.

John Woo’s Metroid Dated!
The Hollywood Reporter claims that the movie based on Nintendo's Metroid franchise is closer than was widely thought, with a full theatrical release now slated for Q3 2005.

John Woo will be the co-producer of the film, having cannily snapped up the rights from the seemingly uninterested Warren Zide and Craig Perry. Interestingly, Woo may also direct the movie, it was revealed.

"This type of story has a proven track record of success with film audiences," said Woo, cementing the focus of the article that points towards something of a high-budget affair.

Expect the Metroid movie in cinemas across the world before the end of 2005.

I can see it already. An Aliens style kinda flick, with a female lead. Kickin in aliens scum, with plenty of CG and explosions. Still have to see AvP film yet, that looks cool enough too. So to have this to add to the list of films, to see for next year is a bonus. Make sure it ain't a crap film Mr. Woo.

Hold on there dude, this is John Woo you're talking about. He doesn't make bad films... Except for Hard Target, of course. Oh and Broken Arrow. And Once a Theef... that wasn't very good.

But other than that absolutely all of his movies have been brilliant.. except maybe Blackjack. And Mission Impossible II sucked bigtime. But otherwise, he has had an impreccable directorial career. True Face/Off was a bit crappy...

Still, who could mess up a film of a computer game? They're ALWAYS great.

I can't wait. Hurt me Gunther, make me bleed!

I think this could actually be a good film. As long as its got a high budget and good special effects, it could be a hit. I'm interested. Still, I think the Silent Hill movie is going to blow away everything.

Dude, I'm still stoked about Resident Evil Apocolypse.

I mean, it seems to start right after the first one ended, with Milla/Alice emerging onto the streets of Raccoon City... but get this... she was near naked at the end of the last movie. So as soon as the action breaks out, we should get to see her fine, fine booty!

Plus I liked the first RE movie for all sorts of valid artistic reasons. And all that blood.

This movie better have adult situations. I sure as heck don't wanna go see a movie about bounty hunters hunting giant alien brains if it doesn't have any adult situations.

While we're on the subject of Zombie movies (and it is one of my very favourite subjects) if you haven't seen Dawn of the Dead yet, make sure that:

a) You do!
b) You stay until the very end of the credits. When I went loads of people, whose lives are obviously SO BUSY that they can't spend an extra three minutes after paying $10 for a ticket, got up as soon as the credits started to roll so that they could rush to get a McDonald's or go home and watch soap operas. Because of this, they missed the great bit (which really tells how the movie ends) that is interlaced with the credits. MORONS!

If you are one of these morons, go see it again!

I saw the DotD remake, and was watching the end credits to see the proper ending, but the bastard projection room bastard turned the film off. Bloody good film, but i should have asked for a refund, coz i didn't see it all.

Come to think of it DotD would make a great game, because it doesn't really need a big story like RE to carry it. You know the situation at hand, and it's just bare faced survival of the fittest stuff. Maybe a RTS or a 3rd person adventure. What would you do if you had that shopping mall at your disposal? Do you make alliances to survive, or rely on number one? Should you let the man being chased by zombies into your car? The potential is there, whatsmore it could be online or something.

As for the remake, since it done quite well don't be surprised if we see another film based on Day of the Dead in the future, if not an altogether new film. Die zombie fool, die!

Definitely man.. I completely agree.

John Woo doing Sci-Fi, (again?), sounds good enough to me..

Metroid can now only go one of two ways..

Hopefully it'll go down the 'most successful computer game -> movie translation ever' ..sigh, we can hope!

Dude, that sux! Really, I would have demanded my money back, because that last 20 seconds really is the killer. It really resolved the story (though, I guess you really know how every zombie movie ends).

>Come to think of it DotD would make a great game,

I have said this in some other thread here already. But with no Forum search, I can't find it to refer to, so here we go re-peaterating me self:

They could make it so the gun shop in the mall was way well protected, so you had to solve some s**t before you could open it. Until then, you'd have to take Zombies out with golf clubs, or 4-day old baguattes.

It could start all Resident Evil like, stealthy and suspense laden, and build up to a Smash TV like crescendo with wave after wave of brain crazed Zombies. It'd rock!
