News has emerged that Namco Hometek has decided to slash staffing levels at its San Jose facility, with the Japanese giant making 28 full-time employees redundant, in news that has shocked the gaming community.

Despite seeing consistent profits in the US, the company has made the decision as part of a corporate restructuring – essentially, a means of being able to juggle its books and please its shareholders in the approach to announcing its annual financial results, a cynical and careless move in our book.

The firm issued the following statement: "Namco Hometek Inc. recently conducted a corporate restructuring, and made the decision to streamline some operations within the company, resulting in the termination of some positions. Namco is looking to further strengthen its presence in the US and needed to make some changes to better position the company for future growth."
