Grand Theft Auto Shock: San Andreas PlayStation 2 exclusive!

Rockstar patent app proves reliable as next game in planet’s biggest franchise takes shape

Rockstar games has announced that the next game in the massive Grand Theft Auto series will indeed be entitled Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, following the title being registered at the US patent office last year.

However, in a shock move by the firm, it would appear that the game will be exclusive to PlayStation 2, snatching back the franchise that was slowly falling for the green allure of Microsoft’s Xbox console.

Now for some thrilling corporate quotes: "In the past couple of years, we have put an enormous amount of pressure on ourselves to ensure we do everything possible to exceed people's expectations with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," said Sam Houser, president of Rockstar Games. "Even though we still have eight months to go, we are starting to become very proud of what we have achieved and we can't wait to get the game into players' hands."

"We are extremely humbled by the success of the Grand Theft Auto series and it has made us push ourselves further than ever to create a title in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that will hopefully redefine the Grand Theft Auto series and revolutionize open-ended gameplay and video game production values," added Leslie Benzies, president of Rockstar North.

As to whether the game will remain a PlayStation 2 exclusive is not yet clear. There may well be PC and Xbox versions to follow after the Sony machine has had its fill, or perhaps SCE has signed a full exclusivity agreement with Take 2.

The game is currently scheduled for a release on October 22nd in the US and Europe.

This is political correctness gone mad. I blame the Haitians! Life should MEAN life and whatnot. As we’re all going to hell in a handcart, Rockstar Games (or should that be Rockstar Shames!?) seems intent on poisoning all out children’s minds.

This never happened in my day.

Back then, we had no illegal immigrants and even less drug abuse. We’d play jacks, not jacking up. We’d play backgammon, not beating up old ladies after they picked up their pensions, went to the butcher’s to buy some gammon. It doesn’t take a genius to work it out.

In other news, anyone fancy taking bets on how long the exclusivity agreement lasts? My bet is not very long – This game is a true cash-fight between SCE and M$.

What would rock. I mean totally own, would be, if after performing a number of pre-determined feats, rampages, secret stunts and driving the whole of the GTA:SA world in reverse, or whatever you could cause an eruption/earthquake/nuclear blast and drop the west coast into the Pacific Ocean.

PS. Don't forget to get Tori a wedding present: http://ww2.williams-sonoma.com/reg/registrylist.cfm?src=regsregistrylist&sid=WSE22R2QMHYAGEQBSYWSXGMBQUBQS6NF200402280338&ftest=1&flash=on
