As you may remember, we exclusively revealed last year that Nintendo had a Game Boy Advance update in testing in Europe. We reported that the new machine had a backlight, folded in half and came complete with a rechargeable battery.

The same source has today dropped heavy hints to us that the upcoming twin-screened Nintendo DS will have touch-screen functionality on at least one of it’s two LCD displays.

An official Nintendo source this morning was coy over the speculation, simply stating, "I cannot confirm nor deny any information relating to the possibility of touch-screen usage for the NDS", though they were clearly surprised, perhaps rattled by the possible leak.

If true, having touch-screen functionality is something of a gamble and again, sees Nintendo invest heavily, both in terms of capital and reputation, in untested gaming technology - a massive gamble for what could essentially become more of a gimmick than a must-own USP.

Expect full details to be revealed later this year, with the global hardware unveiling at E3 in Los Angeles this May.
