World Exclusive: Killzone Creator’s New Game Revealed – First Screen and Artwork Inside!

Shellshock: 'Nam '67 exposed.

These are the first images from Gorilla Games’ until now secret project Nam Shellshock: Nam ’67 a third-person shooter in development for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC.

As you may be aware, Guerrilla shot to fame when Killzone, the PlayStation 2’s ‘Halo-beater’ was revealed last year, and since then, a wall of secrecy has been erected around the Netherlands-based studio, and aside from the odd Killzone screen, all has been quiet.

One of the images is a piece of art depicting what we have been told is the very essence of Shellshock – to recreate a horrific Vietnam movie as a piece of interactive entertainment.

As a source close to the project puts it, “The game will be like nothing else ever seen before and will trounce the competition. Games like Battlefield 1942, Men of Valour and pretty much every comparable game will look like a Disney movie. The conflict was one of the most disturbing moments in human evolution and will be presented as such. The game will be grotty, it will be dirty and upsetting, but not in a gratuitous way. In a way that reflects actual events and experiences.”

You begin the game as a soldier affiliated with the CIA taking part in a full-scale battle. You progress through the ranks and so the game continues. Guerrilla insiders have spoken of huge battle scenes with over 100 AI-powered combatants. Full environmental deformation and burnable environments are promised.

We’ll bring you more on Shellshock: 'Nam '67 in the coming weeks – stay tuned!

Not sure if you're pitching at irony there, but it really is interesting (no irony)

The screenshot is hardly interesting, but if you take a look at the Killzone screens, this lends some credibility to this being a visually great game.

That's the unanswered question hanging over any new game. I guess we might be given more of a clue the closer we get to Killzone's release.

It’s all pie in the sky at this point. For instance, the term Halo Killer for Killzone came from hyperbolic web reports mid-last year, though Sony has taken the bait and decided to believe the hype. Which means - if Zillzone is s**t, everyone is going to look stupid.

This was leaked to us today along with various bits and bobs that we couldn’t run, which is a shame, though we’ll dig around for more in the near future. People close to the project are talking this up more than KZ. Online, cross-platform has been mentioned though is prolly BS IMO.

If they actually manage to capture movie-standard war horror I will be impressed. However as with any game of this type, you will get boys sitting around giggling and trying to make the most horrific things possible happen. Well, we’ve all played Soldier of Fortune. And as long as said boys don’t go on a bloodthirsty rampage after, everyone’s a winner!

And btw, this runs on the KZ engine.
