Nintendo DS Hardware Preview Dated

Nintendo sources reveal Dual Screen preview sooner than expected.

Sources at Nintendo Japan’s Kyoto office are hinting that the Nintendo Dual Screen (NDS) will be shown to the public this month, at a product briefing to be held between February 12-13, much sooner than was expected.

At this point in time, all is quiet as to whether any software for the machine will be shown, though NOJ staffers have been dropping heavy hints to the Japanese press that the device will be unveiled in an E3-busting move.

As one Nintendo source explained, “We need the public to have a tangible idea of what the machine actually is before E3 when it will be playable on our stand. With the release time-frame as tight as it is, the essential concept of the DS needs to be explained in full as soon as possible.”

Although the DS showing is by no means confirmed at this point, the impression we are getting from those on the ground in Japan is that if the machine is not shown on the 12th, it will make an appearance well in advance of this May’s E3, thus preventing an expected bout of 'insania' for Nintendo fans across the world.

We’ll bring you updates direct from Nintendo’s product briefing as it happens. Stay tuned.
