Final Fantasy XII: Screen Overload! Artwork and Fresh Details Inside!

Square Enix game finally unveiled. European fruitless longing begins in earnest.

Square Enix has finally decided to show the world some serious screens and artwork from Final Fantasy XII, the latest addition the blockbuster RPG series.

It would appear that the decision has been made to closely follow the aesthetic of Final Fantasy X, with characters and settings mirroring those seen in the last Final Fantasy release for Sony hardware to be seen in Europe.

And this being said, questions must be asked at to when, or perhaps even if, Final Fantasy XII will be released into PAL territories. Amazingly, no announcement has been made regarding the future of Final Fantasy XI, the cross-platform online experimental role-player from Square Enix.

It was thought earlier this year that a release may come in time for Christmas. Obviously, this is not happening, with the consensus now pointing towards a summer release.

And what does this spell in terms of seeing any kind of Final Fantasy XII announcement? With the PlayStation 3 now expected in 2005, will Sony’s next-generation of hardware hit European shelves before Square’s latest PS2 offline RPG?

It’s likely to be a close run thing, and with Square Enix likely to want to make a big splash with a big launch title, perhaps on a global basis, Final Fantasy XII might never be seen outside of Japan and the US.

And all after Square Enix, at a shareholder meeting held in Tokyo earlier this year, acknowledged that Europe is a key market in which it had been under-performing and under-delivering.

Expect everything Final Fantasy right here, as it breaks.
